Mainly gusty North wind, about 6-18 knots. Best winds in spring and summer. It works only with sunshine, without any clouds, then the thermal kicks in at 11am. The strongest winds come with cold nights and hot days, and no rain for at least 24 hours. Good to launch and make a downwinder to Walchensee. Hard to stay upwind.

Get directions from


A95, then S2370 to Grosswell, then S2062 to Kochel. Drive south on B11 towards Walchensee. When you hit the lake at Urfeld, turn left and drive for about 1km.
