Shallow river mouth, waist deep for a long way. Good long shallow part at high tide. Can be a bit choppy but protected by Kapiti Island so doesn't get too surfy like the rest of the coast.

From Wellington drive North to Waikanae, 30min (60km), turn off at Mobil gas station. Drive to beach, turn left drive to end and you are there.
