Flat during the summer when NW wind is predominant or swell during winter with SW wind. During winter you have the inside bays to sail in flatter water. There is some strong current if you go to the middle of the river.

Very large beach (30km) with soft sand, no rocks, shells etc. More than enough space to safely relaunch and land a kite. No objects close by, just sand dunes. Not crowded.

Best wind comes from South, Southwest and West, very stable. The North wind is tricky and very gusty. Best period for kitesurfng is the off-season from autumn to spring. During the summer you get a thermal effect and have 15 knots almost every day. During winter it is one of the safes places to sail and the wind comes completely clean from the sea.

Get directions from


From Lisbon by car it takes 30 min to Setubal. After that catch the ferry and 20 min later you will be at Troia. If you come from the south, go to Comporta and then follow to Troia. The spot in in the connection from Rio Sado to the sea.
