Slight chop to large swells depending on wind speed and duration. During South to Southeast winds the kiting area is protected from most of the swell giving mostly smooth riding. It is protected by a jetty to the south. Waves are generally steep faced unless coming from a system far offshore. Winds from the North, East or South will produce waves sidshore to directly onshore. Waves can be from knee high to overhead, again depending on wind duration and speed.

Southeast winds produce sideonshore riding, with East winds producing more onshore. From winter to spring the winds generally shift from Northeast to Southeast to South. During the summer the winds are generally Southeast to Southwest with Southeast being the best direction for this location. This gives you a sideonshore ride with a protected area behind a rock jetty to give some smoother water.

Access: | Short Walk |
There is an airport in Wilmington and is about 20 minutes from the beach. You can rent a car there. Drive west to Wrightsville Beach. There are a couple of beach accesses at the south end of Wrightsville Beach. It's paid parking and fills up pretty fast during the tourist season.
Be aware of other beach goers and on lookers.
