Beach is pretty hard packed and shaped like a daytona track. Hardly any rocks. A reserve behind the beach offers perfect landing for kites and should something go wrong there are no houses. Watch out for punters walking on the beach.

From Auckland city head north on state highway 1 until you get to Silverdale. Go along the road until you get to the Whangaporoa peninsula and then drive along the peninsula about 15km until you get to the end. The south facing beach is Shakespear Bay picnic site.
