Built on the highest point of land in Oklahoma City, Lake Hefner is only 5 miles north of downtown. To find the windsurfer's beach, turn north off I-40 onto I-44. After 3 miles, the freeway will turn into the Hefner Parkway. Exit on Hefner Road and turn left (west, over the highway). Take the first left (about 100 yards) onto Old Lakeshore Drive. Follow this road to the jogging trail parking lot. You'll see the large gravel parking lot.
Swimming, skiing and jet skis are not allowed on this lake, so traffic is never a problem.
