Since it is a lake you have flat to choppy waters. Due to the low water level of the lake you have a very large and safe spot.

The local kitesurfing club provides an area for launching and landing (grass). Only there it is allowed! Foil and tube zones are separated (see billboard at the spot for additional info). In spring you can use the large alluvial fan that is created by the small glacial stream.

During summer it is a thermal spot. Very good conditions with South winds (very constant, 3-6 Bft). Quite gusty and cold with North winds (2-6 Bft). Best direction is South. If the forecast shows South or Southwest you have a good chance. Works only in North and South winds.

Get directions from


From Austria (Landeck, Innsbruck) take the B180 and B184 south and then the 40 south. Pass the border to Italy until you reach the lake and the beach. From Italy (Merano) take the 38 west, then the 40 north towards Austria. Before the border to Austria you will pass the lake and the beach. From Rosenheim (2.5 hrs): Rosenheim-Innsbruck direction Bregenz, befor Landeck left up to the Reschenpass. From Munich (2.5 hrs): Garmisch, Lermoos, Fernpass, Imst, before Landeck left up to the Reschenpass. From Bodensee (1.5 hrs): pass Arlbergtunnel, after Landeck right up to the Reschenpass. After Reschenpass drive through Reschen, pass the lake on the left (5 min, about 2 km), pass the village Graun, 200m after behind Graun turn right onto the parking lot. Walk 150m to the Kitewiese.

If you kite there in spring and summer you have to pay a small fee for the usage of the local club site and the provided services named above. The rescue service is an extra payment. You need an international kitesurfing license and a private casualty insurance! Wetsuit and flotation vest are required the whole year. Launch and landing only allowed on the kitezone 'Kitewiese'. Tubes must have a a 5th line restart system. Before the first kitesurfer hits the water, call 118 and inform the rescue that kitesurfers will hit the water. During winter now fees.
