Best Tide: | Tide Independent |
As it is a river mouth and the sand banks are quite flat, tide can go up and down surprisingly fast. Currents are not strong neither dangerous, though. No waves at all. If the wind is under 18 knots the water will stay perfectly flat. Water depth can go from 30 cm. to 3 meter so in the shallowest parts there's no chop at all.

Access: | Long Walk |
From Bilbao to Gernika and then get the road towards Lekeitio. Before Lekeitio follow signs to `Playa de Laida`. 1 km before reaching the `Laida` beach stop your car beside the road, find a restaurant called `Kanala Jatetxea` and exactly at the other side of the road you will find the steps that will take you to the beach: descending a 200 meter stone-made steps.
During the summer, you will find that in a 20 km. radius one or more towns will be celebrating their local holidays. During winter the action gets restricted to Gernika and Bilbao, and only on weekends. Many places to drink a beer with your friends, though.
