Small beach at the camp site requires that all kiters roll up their lines when not on the water. Assisted launches recommended. Beginners and intermediates need only walk into the lake in ankle deep water with their assistant for safe launches.
Best Months: | January, February, March |
Wind Type: | Frontal Winds |
Best Direction: | N, NNE, NE, WNW, NW, NNW |
Main Direction: | N, NNE, NE, ENE, E, ESE, SE |
You can kite all directions of wind here. Northwest, North and Northeast preferable as they come in clean and strong and the `tide` is higher by a few inches. East and Southeast are better kited at the "Dos Suemos" site because the offshore wind comes across from the ocean to the lagoon clean with less turbulences. Season lasts from December to May.

Take the Bonompak extension which is the continuation of the Bonompak 3 lane artery of Cancun once it crosses the road of "Lopez Portillo". Drive until you are in front of the Car Ferry that goes to Isla Mujeres. You will be at the proverbial end of the road. Hang a left onto the hard packed dirt road which leads into the Ritzy Golf and marina development called "Playa Mujeres". Drive for 20 minutes on the well maintained dirt road until you pass the "cabanas" of Capitan Morgan. One more kilometer on your odometer will bring you to the left hand turnoff and, if the wind hasn't been too strong, there should be a sign that says Ikarus.
Currently there is a nominal 5 dollar fee which helps pay the grounds keeper and upkeep on the wells, shower, and composting bathrooms.
Go back to Cancun unless you were hoping for a "Kumbaya" bonfire type of evening.
