The water is brown, but not dirty, it has some dirt in it, but no bacteria. You have to know where to launch, because there are fishing nets and submerged trees in some parts of the lake, and also an area downwind with bulls, which can be aggressive if you go there downwind. There is never too much chop, it depends where you launch, the place to launch is at the north end of the lake, with flat water. The water is about 1 meter deep by the shore, then gets deeper.

Booties are very recommendable, because of the dirt and tiny rock shore, which also has some nasty plants with sharp thorns. The shore is hard packed dirt, which will be very hard, if you should fall onto it from a height. There is a lot of room to setup, and launch.

The wind starts around 2:30-4:00 p.m. and lasts till sunset. It is normally pretty gusty, but sometimes quite steady. It varies from 10-30 knots. This spot is normally windy whenever the day is open with clear blue skies. It also blows really hard when there are cold fronts coming down from the north. The good wind here is the one that comes from the North.

From Mexico City take the road to `Puebla`, once in Puebla head for `Tlaxcala`, then `Apizaco`, then `Presa de Atlangantepec`. The place to launch is at the north end of the lake.

Do not break or ride over the fishing nets, these can be seen by little soda bottles floating at the water surface, and by tiny little buoys. The local fishermen live from these nets, and it is costly and hard for them to replace them.
