What's great about the Farewell Spit is that the wind can be coming from any direction with a medium to long walk a new spot can be found. Just behind the spot on the West coast is a bit wavy but is a good spot when the wind is blowing East. The Spit is almost always windy with a consistent wind.

I was worried about kiteboarding in this location because it is a bird sanctuary but when I ask at the cafe I was told that the Nelson kiteboard team kites here all the time.

No nightlife.
